My pick: the Mercer Millennia 4-inch Pizza Cutter, a sharp wheel with a replaceable blade. Budget: the OXO Good Grips 4-inch Pizza Wheel. Neapolitan from an outdoor oven: the Ooni 14-inch Rocker Blade. Pan pizza in a non-stick pan: Dreamfarm Scizza scissors.

Own a big chef’s knife? It cuts most pizzas on a board. A cutter pays off if you make pizza weekly, cut in the pan or feed crowds.

Specs and care advice from makers’ pages, October 2026; “—” = not stated. Price bands at the maker’s US price: $ under $20 · $$ $20–50 · $$$ over $50. Mercer sells through dealers and lists no price; OXO’s band is from US retailer listings.

How I chose

I started on each maker’s own pages, October 2026: that the cutter is still sold, its blade, size and care advice. OXO’s site wouldn’t load for me, so both OXO picks rest on OXO’s product text as US retailers print it.

For cutting results I used published tests. America’s Test Kitchen ranked the Mercer first, with the OXO and the Scizza recommended. It rated the rockers it tried below its best wheels, mostly for dullness.

Then owners. I read wood-fired oven owners’ threads on the Forno Bravo forum (wheel or knife, which type, the perfect cutter) for the problems that keep coming up. Those points are in the buying guide.

Last, I searched CPSC recalls. The one pizza-cutter recall I found, Calphalon’s in 2015, covers none of these picks.

Which type of pizza cutter is best?

A sharp 4-inch wheel handles most home pizzas. A rocker suits soft Neapolitan pies; scissors suit pan pizza you’d rather cut in the pan.

Type Neapolitan (outdoor oven) Pan pizza (Detroit, Sicilian) Crispy New York In a non-stick pan?
Small wheel (under 3 in) Fine if sharp Poor: too little blade below the hub Good Not stated: lift it out
Large wheel (4 in+) Good if sharp; a dull one drags the wet middle Fair, on a board Best Only OXO’s non-stick wheel
Rocker (mezzaluna) Best: one press, nothing rolling Good, on a board Good Not stated: lift it out
Pizza scissors Good Best: cut in the pan Good Yes (Scizza)
Scalloped pizza knife Fair Good, on a board Good Not stated: lift it out

My matching from Ooni, Gozney, Dexter, Dreamfarm, OXO and Mercer product descriptions, October 2026. Left-handers: wheels, rockers and knives work in either hand; no maker page I read mentions left-handed use, Dreamfarm included.

Cutter, slicer or wheel? The same rolling tool. A mezzaluna is a rocker. A pizza knife, in pizzeria catalogs, is a long rocking blade, often scalloped.

Did you know? A rocker cuts edge to edge in one press only if the blade is longer than the pizza is wide. Ooni’s 14-inch rocker clears a 12-inch pie, but a 20-inch New York pie, which Ooni says its Koda 2 Max can bake, takes two.

Which OXO pizza cutter should you buy?

OXO sells two look-alike wheels. Buy the steel Good Grips 4-inch (pick 2) for boards and peels, and this one for non-stick pans.

4. OXO Good Grips Pizza Wheel for Non-Stick Pans: Best for non-stick pans

OXO Good Grips pizza wheel for non-stick pans with a grey coated blade and black handle

OXO calls the tapered blade “sharp enough to cut through crusts but safe for non-stick pans and bakeware”, so the pizza can stay in its pan. The blade’s non-stick coating stops cheese clinging.

  • Made for non-stick pans
  • Cheese doesn’t cling
  • Thumb guard

Best pizza rocker for outdoor-oven pizza

5. Ooni Pizza Cutter Rocker Blade: Best for Neapolitan pizza

Ooni 14-inch stainless steel pizza rocker blade with a black handle

A Neapolitan pie from an outdoor oven has a soft, wet middle, and Ooni says this 14-inch blade halves a pizza “with one quick move”. Gozney’s 13¾-inch rocker is a near twin. For ovens, see my outdoor pizza oven guide.

Wood-fired oven owners on the Forno Bravo forum prefer rockers for the same reason: the toppings stay put, where a wheel can drag the cheese.

Key specs: 14 in stainless blade · 20.8 oz · dishwasher safe · $$

Pros

  • One press per cut
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Clears a 12-inch pie

Cons

  • No blade cover listed
  • Too long for most drawers
  • Two presses on a 16-inch pie

Skip it if: you mostly reheat store pizza. A wheel is cheaper.

Best pizza scissors

6. Dreamfarm Scizza: Best pizza scissors

Dreamfarm Scizza pizza scissors in black with a flat nylon shoe on the lower blade

A flat nylon “shoe” on the bottom blade slides under the pizza. Dreamfarm says it keeps non-stick pans from being scratched and the blades off your pizza stone, and with a squeeze, Scizza serves the slice too.

Key specs: 5.9 in German stainless blades · nylon shoe, heat resistant to 400°F (205°C) · dishwasher safe · $$

Pros

  • Cuts in non-stick pans
  • Serves the slice
  • Dishwasher safe

Cons

  • Slower than a wheel on big pies
  • No blade cover
  • Left-handed fit not stated

Skip it if: you cut big thin pies on a board. A wheel is faster.

Best professional pizza cutter and pizza knife

Pizzeria suppliers Dexter-Russell, Mercer and Winco sell 4-inch wheels and 18 to 20-inch rocking knives. Mercer’s wheel is pick 1; here are Dexter’s long blades.

7. Dexter Sani-Safe 20″ Pizza Rocker: Best for big pies and parties

Dexter-Russell Sani-Safe 20-inch pizza rocker with a handle at each end

A 20-inch curved blade with a handle at each end, for two-handed pressure. Dexter makes it in Massachusetts, with sealed handles that leave no seam for food.

The one owner review on Dexter’s product page (February 2026) says it cuts “cleanly across the whole pizza in one smooth motion”.

Key specs: 20 in blade · two handles · NSF certified · lifetime warranty · $$$

  • Even, two-handed pressure
  • Made in the USA

8. Dexter Sani-Safe Pizza Knife: Best pizza knife

Dexter-Russell Sani-Safe 16-inch pizza knife with a scalloped blade and white handle

A pizzeria’s “pizza knife”: a long, scalloped stainless blade with a finger guard. Dexter says it handles “thin New York-style pies to deep-dish favorites”; its length suits square pan pizzas.

Pros

  • Long enough for sheet-pan pizza
  • Scalloped edge
  • Finger guard

  • Hand wash, per Dexter

What to look for in a pizza cutter

Match the blade to your pizza first; edge, cleaning and storage come next. These are the eight checks that matter, and which picks on this page do well on each.

Factor Why it matters What to check Picks that do well
Type Wheels suit thin, crisp pies; rockers soft or thick ones; scissors cut in the pan Your usual pizza: see which type is best All eight, by type
Blade size vs your pizza A wheel cuts no deeper than the blade below its hub; a rocker cuts in one press only if it’s longer than the pie A 4 in wheel or bigger for thick crusts; a rocker longer than your pie Mercer and OXO (4 in); Ooni (14 in, for 12 in pies); Dexter rocker (20 in)
Blade steel and edge A soft blade dulls: one Forno Bravo owner’s cheap 14 in rocker got so dull he’d “struggle cutting butter” The steel named by the maker (high-carbon, hardened stainless); a scalloped edge on long knives Mercer (high-carbon Japanese), Gozney (2 mm high-carbon stainless), Scizza (hardened German stainless), Dexter
Replaceable or sharpenable blade A blade you can swap or sharpen outlives one you can’t A spare wheel on sale, or a blade that comes off: see sharpening Mercer (spare wheel M18605), Scizza, Gozney
Handle, guard and build A guard keeps fingers off the edge; detaching handles caused the one pizza-wheel recall (CPSC 15-256) A thumb or finger guard; a grip that holds when greasy; no wobble at the blade (stop using one that loosens); the warranty Mercer, both OXOs and the Dexter knife (guards); Dexter rocker (two handles, lifetime warranty)
Cleaning Cheese and sauce dry in gaps a brush can’t reach An open frame or a blade that comes off; the maker’s dishwasher advice Mercer (open frame), Gozney (comes apart), Ooni and Scizza (dishwasher safe)
Cutting surface Steel scratches non-stick and can be damaged on a stone; Forno Bravo owners say “don’t cut on anything but wood”, and that big curved blades “trip” over pan lips A wooden or plastic board; in a pan, only a tool its maker says is safe there: see non-stick pans OXO non-stick wheel, Scizza
Storage A 14–20 in rocker won’t fit most drawers, and none here lists a blade cover Overall length; a cover, wall hook or knife block The wheels and the Scizza

From the makers’ specs and care pages (Mercer, Gozney, Ooni, Dreamfarm, Dexter; OXO as US retailers print it), October 2026, and the Forno Bravo forum threads linked. “Picks that do well” covers only the eight cutters on this page.

Can you cut pizza in a non-stick pan or on a pizza stone?

Only with a tool its maker says is safe there: OXO’s non-stick wheel or the Scizza. Dreamfarm adds that a wheel or mezzaluna “can be damaged on a stone”.

Simplest: slide the pizza onto a board or peel, then use any cutter. See my pizza stone and pizza peel picks.

How do you sharpen a pizza cutter?

Swap or strop before you grind. Mercer sells a replacement wheel for its Millennia (M18605), and Dreamfarm says the Scizza’s blades come apart for sharpening.

For a fixed wheel, owners on the Forno Bravo forum strop the edge on an ordinary kitchen steel, and say a restaurant-grade wheel lasts for years before it needs replacing.

A plain-edged rocker or pizza knife sharpens like a big kitchen knife: see my knife sharpener picks. Cutting on wood rather than a stone or metal tray keeps any edge longer.

Can pizza cutters go in the dishwasher?

Some can, so follow the maker’s care advice. Ooni and Dreamfarm say their cutters are dishwasher safe. Mercer and Dexter say hand wash: Dexter says dishwashers “dull and damage” blades, and Mercer adds that caustic detergent stains and pits them.

Hand washing is quick on an open wheel like the Mercer, or on the Gozney, which comes apart. Dexter’s advice is to dry the blade straight away.
